READ THIS BEFORE PURCHASING AN INSTRUMENT
Note when purchasing an instrument: BEWARE of VSO's or "Violin/Viola/Cello Shaped Objects"! Purchasing one is like sending your child to basketball practice in flip flops. Technically, s/he could play, but it's going to be super frustrating, you'll need new shoes fairly quickly, and probably some first aid as well! Spend a little extra for the right equipment, and your child's musical experience will be great. Purchasing quality equipment from a reputable music dealer will end up being much more cost effective than an instrument that is constantly in and out of repair. Good quality instruments stay in tune, have pegs that fit and don't slip, have bridges that are cut to fit the instrument, and come with a sturdy case. Use the list of "LOCAL MUSIC DEALERS" below to find a quality instrument. There are also several reputable online music stores such as Shar Music, International Violin, or Woodwind and Brasswind. There are more, so look for places that specialize in musical instruments.
